Shady Grove Development Park - Fiber Lit Business Park

Shady Grove Development Park - Fiber Lit Business Park

Ten Buildings With over 745,000 Square Feet

What's better than lighting fiber in many buildings in one fell swoop? Lighting the fiber in a traditionally underserved area! Everyone wins in this scenario.

Atlantech Online has lit fiber at Shady Grove Development Park in Gaithersburg, MD. Property owner Minkoff Development saw the utility of having fiber on site to help their leasing agents fill vacant spaces in the development but also have Internet bandwidth available for current tenants who were unable to get good connectivity from the big telco carriers. Business parks are traditionally an underserved area for Internet connectivity. Carriers typically focus on high rise buildings where there are lots of tenants or large neighborhoods where residential users demand service. However, business park tenants require bandwidth just like every other business. Because they're typically underserved, business parks that do have lit fiber on site are in high demand by potential tenants.

Recently, Atlantech Online added 9318 Gaither Drive to its list of lit buildings at SGDP.  A comprehensive list of buildings that can access the Atlantech Online fiber network can be found here:

Being able to light multiple buildings in a short period of time is very beneficial for a carrier. Fiber buildouts can cost a lot of money so having a site where there is inter building conduit can make lighting a campus environment like SGDP an attractive site. Atlantech Online was able to have two main POPs within the development and then pull fiber into all the surrounding buildings.

Shady Grove Development Park now offers tenants the ability to access high speed Internet bandwidth at very affordable prices. Additionally, Atlantech's Hosted PBX service can be utilized by tenants. Tenants using Microsoft Teams can use Teams as a softphone on Atlantech's Hosted PBX platform. Lastly, tenants can access AWS, Azure, Google as well as other cloud providers using the Atlantech Online Cloud Connect service.

"We usually light Class A office buildings with fiber. Working with Minkoff, who has been a great partner with this buildout, we identified SGDP as being a very attractive site. Even though it's in Montgomery County, right off Interstate 270, the big telco providers had not built out sufficiently to meet demand for bandwidth. We've aded the whole campus to our network and have many tenants signed up, already. The property owner can also use the fiber for their environmental and property control systems. So, it truly is a win-win-win," stated Ed Fineran, President of Atlantech Online.
