Dial-up Issues

Q: I have a Windows 2000 machine and I cannot establish a Dialup connection. I get an error 773, what can I do?

Solution:

  1. Take the user into the Network and Dial-up Connections Screen.
  2. Have them right-click on their newly created dialup and hit properties.
  3. You'll see a screen with 5 tabs, go to the "Networking" tab.
  4. Hit the "Settings" button right below the type of dial-up server type(which should be PPP, Windows...)
  5. You should see a box with 3 radio buttons:

    Disable LCP extensions.
Disable Negotiate multi-link for single link connections.

This will solve the problem and the user will be able to dial-in successfully(assuming that everything else is set up right).

Go here to see how to setup your dial-up connection.
